ggg, or <g>, or <grin>, are all ways of telling folks to whom you are writing that the last comment was a joke, or made in a tongue-in-cheek fashion. If it sounded abrasive (within reason), and a <ggg> was after it, it was good-natured and a mutual laugh.

Since there are no voice inflections yet in typed words, these are sensible ways to overcome the problems with impersonable communciations. There are no tonal qualities, or facial expression for our alphabet.

As well, many times people will also use "emoticons" like sideways faces :>) (smiley face) to also denote comedy, or said with a grin.

:>( means you're sad, etc.

Us computer geeks are really weird, huh?......

Don't answer that!! <g>.

This is kind of a late response, but with the new visitor
population and the day job, I'm dancing as fast as I can and
still not keeping up...

<some one posted the following as a good
book for background info on our sector. It spends a lot of time on geology, but not
as much as I would like on how our rigs (offshore) function. Anyone have a good
book selection on that topic?>

That could have been Yours T., at times I've recommended 'nuts
and bolts' info sources; the stuff fascinates me and I'd think it
makes one a more knowledgeable investor. (?)

I believe you'll find the book you've cited at Pennwell Pub'g
Co. Try an E-mail to chipr@pennwell.com and he'd be delighted to
send you a copy of their catalog. Some interesting stuff in there.
I'm sure they've something like you're looking for.

Another hit for tech. (and news, etc.) is Oil and Gas Journal
Online....~$75/yr.. Some greater depth articles on all related
topics and news that sometimes escapes the major services.

Good luck.
