Bob,
Are you thinking about Options expiry days? They are the third Friday of the month in both Countries and neither of these would be option eligible. At least up here the min. stock price for margin is $1.50. You could short sell both of these stocks but they would only be called if the security was needed by the broker you "borrowed" if
from. I am not sure if this helps but let me know if you can clarify what it is more.

Bearcatbob, I may be wrong on this but I do think that the "Floor Traders", at least at one time did, settle their accounts with their respective Houses on a month end basis.

If it were not so far that my car/tires could make it, I'd join you guys at the Casino. Alas, I'll have to hang on to my grayhairs name tag until the TV Party.
