DCF,

I'm under the impression that the Isaiah 14 story of Lucifer (Morning Star or Shining One) was used to explain the Fall of Satan in the Middle Ages (see under Satan in The Oxford Companion to the Bible.)
The underlying meaning, whether imposed by the scholars/interpreters of the Middle Ages or not, seems to be that Lucifer (whether this is "really" the one and only Satan or not) tried to set himself above God. Clearly a no-no. Interestingly, the KVJ doesn't expand on where Lucifer goes, but from "Tanakh - The Holy Scriptures" (pub. The Jewish Publication Society), Isa 14:15 is footnoted to refer to "a region of the netherworld reserved for those who have not received decent burial."
Was this the underlying meaning to which you were referring?
