Re: Specific Y2k examples

This is from a recent submission to the Yahoo TAVA thread. A company recently tested a thermocoupling by manipulating the date. This shut down 1/3 of the plants generators. The processor was averaging temperature over time. When the clock turned over, it thought it had a dangerous temperature situation and caused a cascade. Credit won putt for the post.
Cautionary note: I'm as much of a believer as anyone, but still have a stop in place. Hopefully, all our surprises will be pleasant ones...but, JUST IN CASE...! I will say this, it's one of the more distant stops I've ever put in.

Corey--I see that GM has already spent 40 ml dollars, and Unilever has been working on the problem since 95 and plans to be compliant by the end of 98. I know that Tava has done an assessment for Unilever and has been working with GM, but where is all the money going that has already been spent? Are there other problems with these companies that are y2k related, but don't involve embedded chips? Does anyone have any ideas on this? Jan

Corey: Karl mentioned Warren Buffet first, others ran with it, and no one said anything to the contrary. It's a ridiculous notion. (Berkshire is worth 70 billion dollars, Buffet knows nothing about technology, etc. )

Rumormongering like that can be extremely dangerous to the long-term health of TAVA. Last year there were rumors that Soros had taken a position in Zitel. The stock went from 70 to 40 in one day when the rumors didn't pan out. Yes, I know, TAVA is not Zitel--thank god--but that's what can happen, and I don't want it to happen here. Very hard for a stock to recover after such a boom and bust.
