"European panel queries Compaq-Digital merger" (San Jose Mercury News, 3/21/98)

Compaq Computer Corp.'s $8.35 billion plan to buy Digital Equipment Corp. could face a challenge in Europe, where regulators are likely to widen their inquiry into the deal. The deal, the computer industry's largest takeover, is already under scrutiny by antitrust officials in Washington concerned about the impact of the deal on competition in the U.S. computer hardware industry. If the European commission, which enforces antitrust policy inside the European Union, decides to launch a full inquiry, the takeover could be delayed until at least mid-summer. The commission is investigating whether combining Compaq with Digital will limit rivals' access to the burgeoning European market for personal computer services. The commission is expected to disclose early next week whether it will extend its deadline for a decision by four months.

Robbie, I dig your style. Especially with CPQ. Don't screw with Eckard or his business cronies and don't follow the panicking herd of pussies out the door with weak earnings.
I don't however see CPQ being acquired by anyone. It makes no business sense.
The only way CPQ could dump now is if INTC preannounces bad earnings before JUNE. DerekDeV1@aol.com
