Bob:

Thank you for posting the article. It's kind of amusing how Sidgemore has been reduced to rebutting his own marketing literature. So does that mean he's been making false advertising claims all along? If the Justice Department doesn't get him, the FTC will <g>. Like Bill Gates, Sidgemore comes across as a brilliant guy, though maybe politically a bit unschooled.

The lawyers haven't had something really big to gum up the works for over a decade. Bill Gate's voice was really quavering at points in his congressional testimony. I think he realizes he'll be sharing the Microsoft money machine with the legal establishment for some time to come. The antitrust pendulum is beginning to swing back in America as it tends to do every other generation or so. Time to replenish the legal coffers. This new legal assertiveness could very well spill into the ISP industry.

One of the real stories here is how GTE, the "8th RBOC", has achieved a huge headstart against the RBOCs in the Internet business with its BBN acquisition. I really like GTE and Sprint. A Bell Atlantic/BT merger would be a slow-motion debacle, like two dancing dinosaurs.

As I've said from the beginning, no management team can be assembled to completely foil the Internet locomotive. The Internet will drag PSINet over the victory line.
