Satyr....I put short candidates into several categories:

1) industry problems: disk drive makers, oil, semis (asia debacle), box makers etc...many examples...these are the best and I take broad positions...like to short into the heart of the trend

2) company problems: acctg restatements where mgmt was not replace...low liquidity (poor financial state), very poor market positions...etc

3) overbought: high valuation on 2 yr forward measures (2+), high valuation relative to industry valuation, high valuation relative to historical company valuation...and definitely high price to sales...I have done pretty well in the past with this...but this current rally is really redefining this form of short term investing...this is KO which is contrary to what you think is a good short...usually I make 10%

all shorting is done with liquid securities and lots of market makers...with little possibility of takeover...all done with stop losses using technical levels

any views from you...I always like to improve
