scba, there has been a barrage of bad news, bad press, bad opinions,
and now I hear the PCs are too fast. Pretty soon we'll have an article proclaiming that the slide rule is preferred 3 to 1 by consumers. Nothing good has come out in weeks. When the tide starts to turn see how irritated the shorts get. Coming soon: 1.)Explanation of roadmap for CPQ/Tandem/DEC, which will remove much doubt, 2.) massive layoffs and fat-cutting at DEC with large one-time writeoff, which will be in the past one minute after it is announced and will make future quarters look very good, 3.) Annual shareholder's meeting April 23 with much more explanation of future prospects and roadmap, 4.)Ongoing monitoring and explanation of the fixing of the inventory problem, and MAYBE 5.)Earnings surprise to the upside. These factors will drive the stock price up here, magnified by 6.)Massive short covering. The shorts will be, let me rephrase my prior prediction, ahhh, running home, closing the blinds and hiding under the bed.

Mr.scba,
I've always been of the impression that Compaq, etc., are only "box-makers" and have invested accordingly in a long position in Intel. I now have my doubts about a long position in Compaq and feel it may be a shorting candidate after the rally peaks out.
You bring up the excellent obsevation of the market makers in all this. For the record, I own a Compaq computer and I'm very fond of it, moreso than market makers!
Good day
