Dear Steven:

WCII's market strategy has been oriented towards
businesses, and up to this point they have used
exclusively a point to point technology (as
mentioned in JA's post), so that they have used
antennas on the rooftops of the buildings containing the
businesses they were targeting. When they start
deploying Nortel's LMDs equipment, they will be confronting
some of the same issues as CVUS (although for large business
customers, the use of antennas on rooftops will remain
the preferred option).

Keep in mind that CVUS started as a wireless cable service
in Brooklyn, and has started offering data services in Manhattan
only recently. So their strategy has been oriented more towards
serving individuals rather than businesses. Hopefully, they
will move towards having a mix of customers. I am sorry we
got sidetracked here on the issue of signals bouncing on
walls, but I wanted to point out that what Shant H. was saying
about this issue was not totally correct. Note also that
another approach towards serving obstructed subscribers is
to use repeaters in micro-cells.

In the long run, I anticipate that LMDS operators in the
28Ghz band and operators in the 38-40Ghz band will ultimately
all offer similar services with similar equipment, provided
they have roughly the same amount of bandwidth. WCII
remains bandwidth constrained in some markets, but it has
a huge lead in signing up business customers + raising
mountains of cash.

Best regards,

Bernard Levy
