Tom

If I remember right, the Canadian Banks offered bi-weekly mortgage payments long before banks in the US did. Can't remember when it was that I heard that but remember thinking, I wish I could obtain a mortgage that saved thousands of dollars in interest. Just switched mine over about 3 years ago in my little local bank here in the midwest.

GE Capital offered to switch but wanted $300 on another business mortgage.

You bring up a great subject, speaking of which one of my in-laws was telling me today that they got an advertisment from First Union for paying bills over the internet (just this week).

KILLER APP....BILL PRESENTMENT?

"Major regional banks and full-commission brokerages have channel conflicts that prevent them from fully exploiting the Internet," said James M. Marks, vice president and electronic commerce analyst with CS First Boston in New York.

In other words, a branch-heavy financial institution may be reluctant to commit fully to a new medium that might "cannibalize" its existing way of doing business.

I had to read that quote again......now it makes sense. Online Banking is not in the best interest of the branch-heavy bank...which most of them are. This could kill them....or at least really screw them up.

But with the biller AEP picking up the tab from here on out on my Bills who needs them anyway..why not it saved AEP a few bucks. They just passed some of that savings on to me.

Therefore.....It's a 'KILLER APP'....because it will force them, the banks, to change the way they do business....or at least how they market Online Banking.

Even though most don't want to because in doing so it cannibalizes their current branch structure.. Their only hope long term is to be a site of bill concentration...or get a damm button...to generate hits on a world wide in-house ATM.

Between the Canadian Invasion, and the U.S. Billers...that just may be enough to force the U.S. Banks to reorganize and begin to market Online Banking....If not...call them a 'Horse'..the Car is Here!
