Standard analog TV transmits 525 lines, 262.5 lines interlaced at 60Hz. In other words, one frame is scanned twice, interlacing the lines. This prevents flicker. If all 525 lines were scanned at 30 frames per second, the you would have light flicker. Another example is a light bulb in your house, at 60Hz it looks like it's on constantly, but at 30Hz you see the flicker. That's why television is interlaced. Some larger TV's average the image between lines to give more lines of resolution, over 700. Digital TV, I believe will give twice the number of lines 1050. However, it will also give much more accurate colors and lines, making the picture almost as good as looking out a window.

Pope, you are confusing color resolution with scanning lines. HDTV doubles the # of scanning lines from 525 to 1050. If it is multicast as ACTV will be it will not be 1050 lines.
The answer to your question is yes. FSN + will be a much better picture than FSN that you are seeing now. It will transmit more scanning lines because it is digital. The dishes will give you a better picture now but they will also improve with increase scanning from HDTV.
No matter what the color resolution is of your tv right now it can only recieve 320 lines of color do to the bandwith limitation of the signal. Digital will increase the amount of signal in the bandwith. i.e. more water pressure in the hose.
