Interesting post. Another reason to be skitterish of developing nation investments is the good ol' Year 2000 problem. I've been told that many developing nations haven't even thought about what Year 2000 will do to their computer systems. Would you want to own stock certificates or say something like say a 30 year bond or any date-sensitive financial document in a country where the computers don't know what year it is?
India may be the exception as many U.S. companies are farming out their Y2K remedial work to Indian programmers because of the lower labor costs.
