RE: No, the Asian recession can be ameliorated (but not avoided) only by Japan lowering its own taxes and creating a domestic demand engine to soak some of the over capacity in the region.

Truer words were never spoken. I'm not sure they will do this, since it violates their long-term goals though. They've been in recession for seven years and have not used tax codes to get out of it to this point.
