Duncan was kind enough to private message me this url, which some of you may have seen already, or read in a magazine, but which I am copying over here for those of you who might have missed it:exchange2000.com The essential story is that SI was the subject of an article in the latest Smart Money magazine. I particularly thought it was interesting because it is something of a cautionary tale about investing in tech stocks, particularly little tiny ones. My portfolio was doing really well under my broker's tutelage, but when I joined SI I thought I was SO smart and ended up buying a lot of very exciting JUNK at precisely the top of the market and selling all the stocks like Compaq and a bank stock that I found very boring after discovering the joys of what I now see as gambling more than investing. My portfolio will recover eventually, but I could have been very comfortable now instead of still paying off my margin. So I thought the article was very relevant. It also mentions that Jill is still in San Francisco, not Kansas, which was news to me, and also that the Dryers are struggling a bit with their revenues. I am sure Smells Like Tuna and Squeals Like Pig will all stick around and become paying members, though, and help out a wonderful cause. I do think that the more kinds of stocks are covered here well, the wider the market for SI will be, and perhaps we should think about starting threads on stocks that appeal more to non-tech investors to a larger extent than we already have done that. I felt a little guilty being one of those old-timer grandfathered in people, and was about to send money until I realized I need it to try and pick more solid stocks as soon as I finish cleaning up the mess I created with the first batch.
