<I would like to know where Compaq will make its money >

QMS: Good question. Short term between the price wars, Asian flu, and DEC merger, I think we will see further write-offs. This is OK if it is clear to the shareholders what the goals are. There is a tremendous future in computers. Banks and retailers will be major supporters. In the next ten years, I predict most billing, including Credit Card, Utilities, and taxes will be handled over the net. AT&T is one of the first to offer an incentive at 9 cents or less a minute if you agree to be billed on the net. Look at the debate on E-Commerce. It's here and will grow by leaps and bounds. Look at the people in the northeast tonight which couldn't go to the mall because of snow and browsed and/or ordered merchandise over the web.

The tech revolution we witness today is greater than the industrial revolution. PCs will become a household appliance with growth seen in advanced features. Look what it has done for education. Just by the fact that I communicate with you now is something that wouldn't have happened three years ago. Volatility in today's market is partially fueled by information gathered on the internet by small investors.

In summary, if CPQ gets its act together, we will all profit in the long run. LONG RUN is defined as 18 to 24 months.
