I would hate to see this thread waste much time on what I call the conspiracy theory of market makers. Most of it is hogwash. Almost all of the time market makers actions reflect orders they have in hand. I trade through NDB and use quote.com to follow changes in bid/ask and actual trades. On less active stocks, I can actually see my bid/offer sitting there on the screen getting hit or not depending on other parties actions. That is the way it works and is supposed to work.

If you want to talk about market makers not making markets when they do not have orders on their books that would be a different story.
