<<Other than Forrest the South in the West comes off poorly compared to Sherman, Grant, Thomas, Sheridan, and Schofield.>>

Actually, Grant was a horrible General. He was wreckless. He "spent" far too many men to win battles. He is one of the reasons the casualty rate on the Northern side was so high. He made up what McClellan lacked. Thomas was indeed a great General and proved so at Chickamauga, however, he was born in Virginia and came from Southern blood. I am glad to see that you give credit to Lee. He is easily the greatest leader in the HISTORY of warfare and especially the greatest strategist. Neither Napolean nor Alexander The Great had what Lee possessed.
