The home enviroment will probably always be thick because an extra few meg of disk space and maybe a pirated program from work is far cheaper than paying for each usage of a program (download plus usage cost) in the thin model.

I disagree with that statement. The future I envision is that the thin client can make the home computer a real home consumer product were you just turn the box on and you run the program that you want to us just like turning the TV on and watching TV. When you watch TV most people have cable which they are paying for this service. If you want more channels you are charged more. You are paying for a ISP to get into SI. So my point is that people will pay for a program server in the future if it makes their life easier.
If Windows OS/2 Linux UNIX .... can accomplish this same task turning on the box and run your application which in its present state it can't then FAT clients will not be the number one home consumer product in the future. Of course the computer geeks will want fat clients but they are only a small percentage of the market.
