Good article. I think this particular response by Lane sums up an ORCL view of the NC for those who still misunderstand ORCL & the NC.

"We are shipping Oracle8, which supports multiple data types for
network computing, and application servers that go along with that,
data warehouses that go along with that and options that go along
with that. It is the best environment for data and application serving
and hosting for network computing. No one else can do that. They
can talk about what's coming, but today, we are shipping a product
that actually does that. We are the only company that is shipping
tools that allow you to develop a client-server application and
actually run that application in a network computing environment,
without changing it. And we are the only company shipping
prepackaged applications to run on a standard Internet browser.
We are the only company shipping the products that support
network computing and we want linkage with that message, but not
with the network computer. If everybody installs an IBM network
computer or a Sun network computer, or a network computer that is
supported by NCI software, that doesn't really matter to us. If we can
have the Oracle data server and application server and Oracle
tools, Oracle applications with IBM network stations sitting out there
at the end, that's fine with us."
