"You forgot to mention that G3s are cheaper to manufacture than Pentiums now due to die size (Intel chips are 4X as large)."

That's very true. I remember I made at least one post a couple months back discussing this issue in greater detail. Perhaps it was on Yahoo's AAPL board..

Generally speaking smaller chips allows manufactures to fit more chips on a wafer and thus lower cost. However since PPC 750 and Mach 5 604e are produced under .25 micron the stringency is much higher and the yield would be lower...at least during the initial phase of production. Intel benefits from economy of scales...while the lower volume of PPC means that each PowerPC chip must bear a higher percentage of the designing cost and capital investment.

This is probably why Intel is able to keep its mainstream Pentium chips relatively price (as oppose to performance) competitive to PowerPCs.

BTW, I wrote a reply to Phillips post regarding Q2. It took me 25 min and during the edit stage I tried to close another window in Netscape and accidentally hit Command Q instead of Command W and lost everything... Geez, almost had a heart attack. I'll summarize my thoughts later today...
