If I recall correctly, I used a great deal of garlic, a fine Southern tradition. Unfortunately,Ammo- the intended victim- in his eagerness to participate, precipitously pulled the sacrificial bowl onto his arms before the proper words were spoken to consecrate the grits, thus voiding the efficacy of the sacrifice and also ruining dinner. We took pictures of him with his little arms all wrapped like white clubs to teach him in later years the value of restraint. It was such an expensive experience, the hospital and doctor bills so high, that we decided to stay clear of burning babies until we were more financially stable.
