Rich.....agree with all your points but one.....Clik! IMO, if IOM is scamming us about Clik!, KE shouldn't worry about getting sued.....he should worry about staying out of the slammer. Indonesian gold mine shares, anyone???

On the subject of suing/lawyers, some here may want to read this from today's Washington Post:

washingtonpost.com

And, for those who don't have time to read the entire article.....
What do lawyers and sperm have in common? Each have only one chance in millions of ever becoming a human being!

RE: Observations about Iomega Warning.

Rich,

Excellent points, but there's one where I'm observing different things than you:

>> Considering that Jaz 2 has virtually no impact on sales this quarter; jaz 1 sales are probably down because who wants an 'old' product; buz has a very LIMITED market; and with price cuts on ZIP, unit sales are probably up over last year with total sales $ flat. <<

I think you're correct about Jaz2 having virtually no impact on sales this quarter.

I disagree completely with the Jaz1 observation, however. Every indication I have is that Jaz1 is having its best quarter ever. (Of course the price cuts there could be hurting.)

I agree that Buz isn't moving much, but disagree about the market. I think it just hasn't been marketed right. It's priced right to sell several million units to consumers, IMHO, but hasn't been marketed right yet. People will buy a "cool toy" if they see what it does, but that's the problem with Buz. I've read the box and asked salesmen at several different stores about Buz and still am not clear on what I can do with it. Some people will buy it out of curiosity or because of Iomega's name, but the rest of us will wait until we find out that we can't live without it.

As far as price cuts on Zip and unit sales probably being up vs. last year (when we sold about 1.2 million Zip's in Q1 97), I think you're right. But I also think they're down significantly from Q4 97's 3 million, and that worries me. Q4 96 to Q1 97 only saw a modest drop in unit sales. I expected the ad campaign to at least keep us even. The ad campaign may help in Q2, but I would have felt a lot more confident if we saw results sooner.
