Hyundai Says U.S. Commerce Dept. Admits Error
By Jack Robertson

Hyundai Electronics Industries Co. Ltd. claims the U.S. Commerce Department admitted making a computer entry error in calculating its DRAM production costs, causing Hyundai to be hit with a 12.64% preliminary penalty duty. Hyundai last week was waiting for a promised "administrative procedures" letter from Commerce admitting the error. Department officials had not returned calls by deadline regarding the alleged error. A final Commerce ruling that could adjust or eliminate the preliminary duties against Hyundai and a second South Korean DRAM maker, LG Semicon Co. Ltd., is expected this summer.
