I think what is really interesting is to see where DSC's price is relative to other telecom losers. NWK, which I have never owned, is continually disappointing the Street. Estimates are 80c for FY ending 3/98 and for 91c for FY ending 3/99. It ended the week about 15 1/2, not much below DSC. So 15-16 should be the floor for DSC. Though NWK's price has been propped up by takeover rumors.

At the same time, the bad news seems to be widely known now and DSC may make the revised lower numbers, whatever those may be. I am sure the whisper numbers will be very bad, and DSC may even rally when it reports.

The point that is really irritating is that if we call DSC, we will be told they are in a quiet period and cannot say anything, but DSC will still talk to analysts. I know this is widely done, but all should have an equal playing field. If they have guided analysts lower, they should make a public announcement on that.

Also, if they are guiding estimates lower now--still with 2 weeks to go in the Q--we can assume the Q will be very bad. Usually they wait until the end of the Q to see how the last two weeks went before making making revisions.
