Pagan Goddess of the Unruly Feet? That is a really lovely title, Ignacio, and I shall wear it proudly. However, I am really perplexed about this argument we are having. I am beginning to forget how it started, or what it was originally about, and yet it continues! Let me see if I can sum up what I think about this. I believe I said basically that while the President was entitled to a fair hearing, the sheer number of women who have come forward, several of them reluctantly, would tend to suggest that he has some kind of a sexual problem. The fact that he is now asking for Executive Privilege for his aides, and has backed away from promises to tell us what is going on, and at the same time has done everything he can to discredit these women in the press, does not improve my opinion of him, however. I just don't see anything unreasonable about my having this opinion. Other opinions supporting the President are expressed here as well, and it has remained for the most part a polite discussion, not a food fight. I must say I am much more concerned with the accusations of perjury, suborning perjury, and obstruction of justice than his sexual misbehavior. Everyone in the country has an opinion on this matter--why cannot I have one as well? Then the other debate I thought we were having is whether it would be considered assault if the President placed Kathleen Willey's hands on his genitals when she did not want them there. It is not just Patricia Ireland who has said that IF this happened, it is assault. This is former Congresswoman Patricia Schroeder, usually a fierce Clinton defender, commenting after Willey's 60 minutes segment: "It really is sex assault if what happened happened. It makes my skin crawl. You get nauseous thinking 'Yuck, I don't want to hear this.'" I am not positive we will ever hear all the evidence on this, Ignacio. Some of it is the President's word against Willey, and against other women. So I have to look at behavior patterns, as well. But the most curious thing about this is why it bothers you so much that I have this opinion. I really, really don't understand. Incidentally, it is almost incredible that a woman who would have sex on a pool table with other people standing around was not drunk, or somehow drugged. This is really very unusual behavior for a woman. Christine
