Baker Hughes (BHI) - A Likely Takeover Candidate? It has been reported that Schlumberger(SLB) and Baker Hughes(BHI) were talking to each other in '97 but such talks broke off. Several fund managers and/or analysts on CNBC and Wall Street Week have made comments that Baker Hughes was a likely takeover candidate in an industry that will certainly consolidate further. The Houston Chronicle also ran a similar story. With Halliburton(HAL) acquiring dresser Industries(DI), Schlumberger is pressed to do something.
