Cap: >>>"I doubt very much that anyone posting on this or any other thread can have much of an effect on a particular stock."

Well stated. Although these internet discussion threads can often influence the decisions of the occasional smaller investor it's those with the big money that have the major control in any stock's price. Simple enough to understand if you think about it.

However there are some who think otherwise and will go to great extremes at times. Some of us start out so positive or negative on an issue that we tend to get a bit overexhuberant just talking on a subject and our enthusiasm is fueled even higher when it appears we're "thinking right" based on the stock's activity. Some of us "hear things" but we're so new to the game that we're unsure what constitutes a "reputable source" when it comes to rumors. There are those that know their subjects and continue to study them; there are those that know little about the true subject at hand but know how to read and use search engines; there are those that know little if anything yet choose to post anyway and of course there are some great orators.

This is but one little "series" that has become a classic in some peoples' books:

Collectively, I do think SI threads have a material impact on some stocks, especially micro-caps. I'm just guessing but the impact is probably at least that of technology stock letter.

AFA my interest in PTSC, I read about the PTA1000 a couple of years ago when Java was just a hatchling but I realized right away that it represented the first real threat to Microsoft's monopoly. Now, the fact that Java will be the standard "language" of intelligent devices, there isn't any doubt about that in my mind, means the market for shBoom as a modern, standards-based device is massive. Whether the Carl Sagan-like market scale translates into earnings for PTSC remains to be seen. I guess it boils down to cost/performance, availability and the strength and depth of competition. One thing I do know is that we are early to the party in terms of Java awareness and if I remember correctly it took a while for Internet and Y2K stocks to really launch. Clearly the nerds and technophreaks are aware of this trend toward Java but the general population isn't (read: doctors, lawyers, brokers and other people with real cash to invest).
