David:

A new process technology is always great news. The G12 offers about space for 159 more million transistors than the previous G11 generation.

I think the trend was:
G10 49
G11 64
G12 223

a sizable increase in transistors.

Yes LSI could certainly make the chip do all that you said. Why not? There should be more than enough space.

The tone of the release mirrored last year's release about the G11. This time however LSI has been upping the ante with the analog and memory pieces on the same chip as well. Virginia, we may finally *really* have a gosh darn computer with everything on one chip! Just kidding but getting much closer. At this pace LSI should be at a 1,000 million or 1 BILLION transistors per chip by the year 2000 - easy enough at the rate they are going...

Others probably have the same process technology too though. So don't get too excited by the number of transistors alone! The key is those cores and actually implementing the designs in real silicon. I think LSI's competitive advantage is that they can and will be able to do so.

Now tomorrow we have the transports getting whacked because of the oil deal. At some point people have to come back to the techs. Let's see how the market reacts to the LSI announcement. If there is a big yawn we know without a doubt we are going to be here for awhile!

Insider selling in the market is now manic! They know we are at an unsustainable level. The thing to watch for is what will cause the entire apple cart to collapse.

Shane.
