MPLS is MultiProtocol Label Switching and it is standardized in the IETF. Ascend and Cisco are the leaders although IBM is involved. Ascend's solution is closer to the standard and has far more functionality. This sort of thing will play out to some very large ATM contracts later this year and on into 1999.
