Although I do not disagree that there will be severe layoffs at some point; any significant layoffs are unlikely to happen until the merger takes place because they would not want to jeopardize FTC decision making in any way.
Also, it is quite conceivable that some large scale layoffs will be announced after the merger is officially in place; it may not have to wait until 6-12 months after (there may be a nother round by that time).
