''TBR's quarterly benchmarking indicates that the computer
industry is consolidating around a handful of vendors:
Dell, Sun, Compaq, Gateway, HP, and IBM (NYSE:IBM - news),
''said TBR's Director of Syndicated Services,
Joseph Ferlazzo, ''These vendors are clearly winning out
over such vendors
as Micron (NASDAQ:MUEI - news), Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL - news),
Packard Bell, Toshiba, Acer, and AST on the low-end
and NCR (NYSE:NCR - news), SGI (NYSE:SGI - news), Unisys
(NYSE:UIS - news), and Digital (NYSE:DEC - news) on the
high-end. We see this consolidation trend continuing due
to the critical mass and brand name equity these vendors
have in their respective markets, backed by continually
improving operations and business model strength.
Compaq's proposed acquisition of Digital is a clear
example of this trend in action.''

TBR's highly quantitative, proprietary benchmarking
methodology ranks the leading global computer vendors
on a comparative basis every quarter, taking into
account the critical factors of business success in
the computer industry: ability to effectively implement
strategy overall and in terms of product sets,
marketing strategy, manufacturing strategy, and
business model.
