Jim, >>>IBM is waging a not so secret little war against Intel...once removed.<<<

They also have a full scale war going against: MSFT wrt LOTUS (Notes, WP, et al); Compaq, Dell, HP wrt PCs;SUNW, SGI, HWP, DEC wrt servers/workstations; SEG, WDC, QNTM wrt DD;EDS & CSC wrt to Systems Integration; CA wrt Mainframe software.

Plus they have little brushfires to put out in telecom and online services.

Plus they have to go through contortions to find the rationale for the AS400 and the minicomputer business and they have to watch their backs against mainframe clones Fujitsu/Amdahl, Siemans, NCR, and others.

It seems like they have their plate full - can they really open up another front with any kind of committment.

What I'm trying to say is that I would rather buy my shoes from a shoemaker than from a grocery store.

Regards,

Mary
