<< Samsung cited a report by U.S. securities company Smith Barney which forecasted a shortage of 64M S-DRAMs in July. >>

I guess all news is bullish these days. It's bullish when fabs are canceled, because it reduces supply, and it's bullish when fabs are opened, because it means that the manufacturer believes the market will improve.

I wonder if the writer is mixing DRAM types. He quotes a Samsung guy as saying they will have only one 64M line instead of two because that will meet "current demand", then he says that Samsung is relying on that Smith Barney report that forecasts a shortage of 64M S-DRAM by July.

I would conclude that Samsung can install that second 64M production line from scratch in three months to take advantage of the July shortage, and it just doesn't happen that fast.
