Bill - you asked, "Why can't APM just hire away knowledgeable MR engineers? is there a trade secret law suit to prevent such occurences?

Why can't APM license IBM's MR and GMR technology instead of having to develop it themselves? does it require new production equipment?"

if memory serves, the guy [forgot his name] heading up the MR project at APM was hired last Fall. He has done a lot of work on MR at IBM. However, you are quite right. APM, or any co for that matter, should be careful not to cross the line of stealing trade secret.

Ultimately, some sort of licenses - if IBM holds the patents - must be obtained. In the mean time, APM, or any co for that matter, has to do something. Licensing technologies is one thing; ramping up production is another; making yields acceptable is yet the third.
