>>Firstly, let me apologize for dumping all over you...

Well, no apology necessary, but accepted anyhow in the
spirit it was given. I didn't interpret anything you
said as dumping but rather as defending your opinions.
This is the essence of SI.

Yes, you challanged me a bit, but I don't have patience
with those who can't take that.

>> The truth is, SI is not anarchy... there are rules to be followed. It is highly inefficient to have to click each person's profile
every time to see whose comments I'm reading.

Now this I can agree with. It's to the point.

>>In fact, that's what the duplicate names permit: imposters.

Maybe it makes it a bit easier, but it neither permits nor
does prohibiting them deny it.

>>Perhaps if we were each given an account number which
printed next to our name, that would suffice to
distinguish between duplicates.

Or something. But now we're talking about the same subject.
Detection and prevention of crime I can support. Preventing
honest citizens from going about their business in the name
of preventing a POSSIBLE FUTURE crime, is police state stuff.

To this end, did you report the imposter to Jill?

Net my previous posts: (1) People DO get involved in SI in
a personal way and denying a persona is an imposition. I
won't put it stronger than that, but it's that much. (2) It's
not at all clear that denying duplicates solves the problem
everyone arguing with me claims it does; first we have
examples of impersonations (ala Capt. Kirk) who are not
duplicates, and second, we have impersonations on other
forums which SI rules could never address. (3) For goodness
sakes, folks, quit imputing to me positions I don't hold.
I think there are serious problems in impersonations; I just
don't happen to think the things put forth as obvious solve them.
(4) I'm offering an opinion for discussion, not trying to
jam my views down anyone's throat.

I guess, to everyone's relief, I'm sure, I've now posted
about everything I have to say on this subject, and tried
to clarify it. It's all my opinion. I support everyone's
right to disagree.

Regards,

Spots
