Mark,

That "fear and trembling" was taken from the Philippian letter from Paul.(Phil.2:12). The words were written right after Paul had written about our attitude, because even Jesus attitude was one of humility(v 6-8). He is writing to friends so this language would not have been unusual to them. He wanted to make sure that they understood that even though we "work out" our salvation, it is GOD who "works in us to will and to act according to HIS good purpose.(v. 13)

mark,
Actually I was quoting the word when I said that.

Phillipians 2:12-13

12 So then, my beloved, just as you have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your salvation with fear and trembling;
13 for it is God who is at work in you, both to will and to work for His good pleasure.
14 Do all things without grumbling or disputing;
15 that you may prove yourself to be blameless and innocent, children of God above reproach in the midst of a crooked and perverse generation, among whom you appear as lights in the world,
16 holding fast the word of life, so that in the day of Christ I may have cause to glory because I did not run in vain nor toil in vain.

cya,

Bob
