Dwight, I think a lot of this stuff is seeing what you want to see. I am by nature a skeptic. That means that I constantly challenge and question my own beliefs. On the other hand, I think that people who practice TA are believers who seek to justify and rationalize their beliefs. You brought up the two most common rationalizations that I've seen:

1. It is an art form. This rationalizes the fact that it is mathematically no better than random.

2. News overrides TA. This rationalizes the fact that TA does not anticipate major moves.

In a sense, TA reminds me of faith healing. The healer insists that the patient is cured if he is a true believer. When the patient croaks the healer can always say the guy didn't really believe. It's like when the TA guy doesn't find the stock going up he will say it really wasn't a double bottom, or it really wasn't a cup and handle, because if it was, then the stock would go up.
