Matt; Sounds reasonable to me. We a;; seem to suffer bad betas, Win/AAPL.

Even if it is slow the pace of speed increase in CPU speeds will mitigate that .

The Prelude to Rhapsody passed out at last years WWDC was OpenStep on Mach on Intel. There's a review by Maury Markowitz on Stepwise where he raved about how fast it was.

DR1 for PPC and Intel is out now, and it slowed down noticeably. This is a developmental beta and they turned off all optimizations in the compiler. This is to make it easier to debug when the bug reports come in.

Reports around are that DR2 is about twice as fast as DR1.
