Jerry, I know you agree there's a curiosity to what makes a stock split worth investing in other than that it drives the price up. Briefing's commentary was tongue in cheek but given that stock spits used to flatten a stock for awhile (not make it go up), its something worth discussing despite its current trading value.

This market has broken anyone betting against it. In a surging market its best, as you point out, to hitch a ride with each new breakout and not muck around with bottom fishing. But that can change, and one day a split will be worth no more than a banana. Until then lets rock and roll, eh!

Notice how SLB got hit with a downgrade this morning?

estimates for semiconductor equipment maker due to the severe impact from Asian; lowers FY98
EPS from $2.17 to $2.07 and FY99 from $2.20 to $2.00 a share; says Korea is running at half the
normal rate while Japan is expected to be worse than anticipated, Europe and Taiwan seem to be
holding their own.....

Oil Stocks: Deutsche Morgan Grenfell downgrades Texaco Inc. (TX 61 -7/8), and Unocal Corp.
(UCL 40 11/16 -11/16) from "accumulate" to "hold" recommendations; downgrades Atlantic
