MIDLAND, Texas (Dow Jones)--Dawson Geophysical Co. (DWSN)
expects earnings per share for the second quarter ending March 31 to be
"significantly" below First Call Inc.'s 30 cents a share estimates.

In a press release Tuesday, the company cited El Nino storms and delays in
obtaining rights-of-way permits for the shortfall.

The company said there hasn't been any change in its orders for 3-D
seismic services, and it expects the operations to continue to expand.

Dawson Geophysical, a seismic technology company, reported net income
of $1.1 million, or 26 cents a share, on revenues of $11.7 million for the
second quarter ended March 31, 1997.
