J. Saf, I have been fortunate enough to receive a demonstration of a tenprinter system and talked in depth about the uses of such equipment. It will take longer than 5 minutes per person to perform. The process is to take scans of the "slap" (4 fingers at one time) for each hand and then each finger will invidually be "rolled". There will without doubt be individuals who do not have "nice" prints to work with and will be rejected on the first try. Scans will have to be repeated until the tenprinter gives back a verification that the image is good. My guess is that on average it should be closer to 10 minutes per person. Printing out tenprint cards is not exactly the speediest process either. I am not sure if a printout would be required for this use if the prints are submitted electronically. You have probably printed a high resolution, image on a printer in the past and realize how long it can take. As for maintenance of the equipment, I cannot estimate the amount of time it will take up, but there must be some time consideration. What happens if the unit goes down and needs to be re-initialzed? I can't recall which system platform the IDX TP600 uses but I think it was either UNIX or Windows NT (correct me if I am wrong). If it is UNIX, it is not user friendly and may be time consuming. Moving past the straight salary of the employee you need to add back a portion of the benefits (medical, retirement plans etc). The next problem is what is the rent allocation back to the JV? Will they be charged only for the space the unit takes up or will there be a waiting area for customers (could be one chair in a corner someplace). I don't know what the rent rates are running where the Sylvan sites are and will not make up a number, these are just other things to consider. Add in electric, miscellaneous supplies, telephone expenses and I think I am boring you enough at this point. As you can see, there are a lot of expenses that are easily overlooked. I said before that $4,000 seemed light to me and I stand by that comment. Bottom line, I am still very happy with the JV and think it will be a huge success down the road for IDX Ed
