Peter,

Norian and CBMI/Stryker are targeting two different types of applications at this time. Norian targets crush type fractures of trabecular bone (fibrous spongy stuff inside the ends of bones). Whereas CBMI is targeting cortical bone, which is the hard type of bone that is on the surface of bones, and which constitutes the central bone in a long structural bone. Cortical breaks are the typical broken arm breaks that heal with a cast. Trabecular crush fractures are where the fibrous end of a bone is broken and crushed into lots of pieces and doesn't tend to heal with just a simple casting. I think that they can actually help each other by drawing more attention to the use of advanced materials for orthopedic repair.
