Vans reports third-quarter earnings: biz.yahoo.com Net sales for the quarter increased 11.3% to $43.5 million, compared to $39.1 million for the third quarter of fiscal 1997. Net income rose 6.0% to $2.3 million, versus net income of $2.2 million in the same period last year. Diluted earnings per share increased to $0.17 versus earnings per share of $0.16 in the third quarter of 1997. Net sales for the nine months increased 17.9% to $141.7 million, compared to $120.2 million for the same period last year. Net income rose 19.1% to $9.2 million, versus net income of $7.7 million in the same period last year. Diluted earnings per share for the nine-month period increased to $0.66 versus earnings per share of $0.56 in the same period of 1997. Kirk
