Just out of curiosity, why are we so certain the stock will rise with the announcement that Jobs has taken the position?

There is no such thing as certainty. However, I would bet that it will gap up on the news, because Jobs has made the correct decisions recently.

I would also show extreme caution by taking any short term profits after the gap! The stock is surely setting up for a correction.

Very good question. I can think of two reasons.

1. He represents the old Apple.

2. Certainty. Plenty of people question his abilities, but investors like certainty, and even if we're 99% sure that Jobs will accept the job, a percentage of people won't buy because of that 1% chance that Nader/Iacocca/Dunlap/Satan/Ren/Stimpy might suddenly take the helm. Not that all those people/creatures/supernatural beings would be bad choices, but few would buy because of that 1% chance. So once it's a fait accompli, some people will feel more comfortable buying.

By the way, most of the rise has probably already happened, and on the announcement there might be some "buy on the rumor, sell on the news" selling.

Just out of curiosity, why are we so certain the stock will rise with the announcement that Jobs has taken the position?

Mark,
Keep in mind Mac OS users (60 million) are equal Window 95 users (60 million). Remember, "Microsoft and Apple equals 100 percent of the market" Jobs said, "If we can agree on a few things, it will make it much easier for the consumers." Believe or not? Read the article of "Just the Numbers"

I would like to see Jobs to take Apple's CEO post to execute J-Plan ( Jobs' plan) in the future. What are J-Plan? All of AAPL members can get the answer from AAPL's thread. If J-Plan are successful to get half of Mac OS users (let say 30 million) to buy Apple's products, AAPL stock will soar...

Best wishes

James
