There are mutual funds that can be bought to "short" the S&P. Rydex Ursa, if I'm not mistaken, and Prudent Bear. Perhaps someone else can give more details.

In your IRA you can buy mutual funds which short stocks:

- RYURX is the inverse of the S&P 500.
- BEARX shorts primarily tech stocks.
