SAN's Hit The Road:CLARiion, Datalink, and Storage Technology Corporation Partner to Present Storage Area Network --SAN-- Technical Forums

MINNEAPOLIS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 25, 1998--Open computing industry leaders, CLARiiON(R), Datalink, and Storage Technology Corporation, today announced that they are partnering together to lead an 11-city Storage Area Network (SAN) Road Show across the United States. Each half-day technical forum, targeted at IT professionals that are responsible for designing, implementing, and managing storage solutions, will examine the role of SANs implementation strategies and issues, as well as present new and emerging technologies that enhance access to and protection of mission-critical information.

Storage Area Networks provide scalable, more manageable, more reliable and faster storage environments by enabling IT managers and network administrators to externalize storage from the server, attaching storage via a separate network. While SANs are not new, the advent of technologies such as fibre channel have created a new generation of SANs that offer the utmost in data availability.

"At a time when corporate IT managers and network administrators are under intense pressure to keep the network online and data accessible to users, many are exploring their options for reengineering their networks," said Michael Peterson, president of Strategic Research Corp. "For many of them, reengineering will most likely include adding a Storage Area Network, and I encourage IT organizations to investigate and deploy this technology." Peterson is also president of the Storage Networking Industry Association, of which CLARiiON and StorageTek are founding members."

"By educating IT and network managers about the benefits of SANs, we will create heightened awareness about this important new concept, while addressing questions and concerns," said Larry Hemmerich, vice president and general manager of CLARiiON. "In addition, by sponsoring events such as this, CLARiiON not only gets great exposure in front of key customers but the chance to demonstrate our expertise."

"Effectively putting technologies and strategies in place to connect people to data is a key differentiating factor for organizations. Access to mission critical information empowers decision-making, improves productivity, enhances competitive advantage, spurs innovation, and drives bottom-line results. As these challenges continue to grow, SANs will play an increasingly vital role in IT information management strategies," commented Greg Meland, chief executive officer, Datalink. "We are pleased to partner with two industry leaders, CLARiiON and Storage Technology Corporation, to educate and update IT managers about SANs."

"Fibre channel technology will be a key driver in advancing the development of storage area networks," said Sylvia Summers, multiplatform vice president and general manager at StorageTek. "By continuing our strong partnership with the leader in fibre channel, CLARiiON, and now joining with Datalink, StorageTek is pleased to be able to work together to educate customers on how fibre-based storage area networks will enable more scalable, faster and stronger storage environments."

The forums are scheduled as follows: St. Louis, MO (April 7), Indianapolis, IN (April 8), Minneapolis, MN (April 9), Teaneck, NJ (April 15), Herndon, VA (April 16), Ypsilanti, MI (April 28), Milwaukee, WI (April 29), Schaumburg, IL (April 30), Denver, CO (May 5), Seattle, WA (May 6), and San Francisco, CA (May 7). Each forum will be held from 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Those interested in registering for a seminar should contact Alicia Thompson at 1-800-448-6314 (extension 158), register on the internet at www.datalink.com or email info@datalink.com.
