Microsoft unveils 3-D Web initiative www5.zdnet.com

Another of those famous "open" Microsoft web standards, he notes dryly. The thing about all these Microsoft X things, the real X predates Windows (3.0, much less Win95), and is really open, and works over a network, but never mind. Being less than enamored by the general overdesigned graphics overload on the web these days, I hope this "initiative" depends on NT5 or something. All part of the Web Lifestyle, I guess.

The initiative, code-named "Chrome," aims to make 3-D graphics more prevalent on the Web by simplifying the task of creating such graphics. In addition, the graphics will run within Microsoft's DirectX framework on the computer, speeding animation and display of complex 3-D.

Microsoft did not release a schedule for the project.
