I listened to the talk show that Mike was on today. It wasn't that exciting. Here are a few things that were said:

- Mike introduced a new VP, Bruce Tobrickson. I believe he was hired to help with the financial side of the business. I think he came from a billion dollar company. (What happened to Norris ?)
- The DBCO was called off because there were just too many uncertainties and they thought they might have trouble getting all the approvals. He did not expand on what approvals. Another reason they called it off was that they started to listen to some advisors and analysts who thought they were biting off more than what they can chew.
- Estimated internal growth at 15% and said he was being conservative.
- Mike learned his lesson on his famous $1.20 estimate and he will try to exhibit more caution when he speaks.
- Mike is mandating that each subsidiary looks internally for services first before they go outside.
- They are getting a lot of calls from Institutions and Research Companies.
- ECO now holds 2 million shares of DBCO as a pure investment now.
- Backlog this time of the year last year was $140 compared to the current $245

The only question that I could fire off was what they were going to do about EIF. Mike could only talk good about it and that they expect to make a nice profit some time this year on it's investment. I wish there was more or was given more time to ask some questions about Q1 and the mobilization problem, margins, and backlog.

David...
Evidently projects are assigned to one of the three profit centers and then worked on by any combination of the subs at any location. We can only guess at allocations. (although not that hard, I would think)

Although I would be a little leery of 30% margin statements, I would accept the notion that margins are improving in a significant way. It may be that some burden items are added on after Halefs contribution. I had forgotten about your msg that spoke of this. The point is that they should improve. I would also think that using tools of CCG (project management software and bidding software that they would be well aware of their efficiencies.

All in all you provide considerable optimism, it should be a good year.

Thanks for your response.

regards
pete

David...
The 10k has both Norris and Tobecksen in finance.
Tobecksen, VP Treasurer with $250k salary (1/1/98)
Norris, Senior VP CFO with $225 salary.. (5/1/97)

It looks like Mr. Norris may well have been reassigned. Do you have any word on this??

pete
