Don't believe everything you hear from some analysts. When was the last time you've looked at WS journal, or any financial publication for that matter and seen P/E "(future)"=....If everyone is looking at those "future" P/E, why would we ever care about the present earning (0.2 or 2 or 20 ...we shouldn't even talk about them leave alone analyze them). "Future" P/E can only be considered for IPOs (and companies with short history) to a limit . For a company that's been around for years, I don't think we can as easily forget about the present earning and start assuming that future is better.
When one looked a parameter for a stock, whether is a price, low,high,strenght ratio, book to value, price to sales and so on we look at those prices on "year to date" not on "year from now" basis, having said that why should it be any different for P/E.
