All,

MSFT just ordered to remove the "Java" labeling from it's products by federal judge. Scott McNeely was in the middle of an interview with Lou Dobbs when someone interrupted them to slide the note to Lou to tell McNeely and the audience. That boy looks like he has 75 teeth when he smiles like that. :-))

Hi all!

(Sorry I couldn't respond faster - ran out of my free responses - lol - I think my responding life on SI will be ending soon :( - ohh well)

OK, Here I go.

Responding to Peter...
Peter you are right. Throwing more hardware in order to solve a software solution is a cheap alternative. So I have no fear at all that the IPX compatibility mode drivers will put more load on the server. Just ensure that you have a larger server to handle the issue. And as you and I both have known, Novell servers are almost always way over configured.

News to get excited about...
Anyone that wants some good news on seeing another block fall off the Microsoft empire, the JAVA label removal from all Microsoft products is a HUGE!!! story. This is big people. Microsoft was so worried about this news that they called a conference that pre-announced their earnings would be better than expected this quarter. Microsoft almost never does this! They are scared of this one.

For Novell, this is great news especially during Brainshare. WHY? Because NetWare 5 is Pure-Java compliant and Novell & SUN are very good buddies! It is now time for Novell to throw some FUD around about Microsoft's ability to provide real Java.

Novell Earnings source this year? I got a source...
Paul and some others have asked the question as to where Novell's revenue wil be coming from in the up-coming quarters. The trend has been declining. Well, I am going to re-post what I posted lat night on Yahoo on where I think its going to come from...

"Over the last couple week on the NOVL SI board there have been a few on posters that questioned why NOVL revenues would go up as the trend has been for it going down. Today I think I found a good answer where one source of money is coming from. Get this:

I am working on the Year2000 upgrading project for our own company regarding the Novell software inventory as well as several of our customers. This is what I found out. Novell will provide free upgrade patches for IntranetWare users (4.11) and NetWare 3.12 users.

BUT! Any 4.1 4.02 4.01 and pre 3.12 NetWare operating systems will have to pay for their upgrade to either NetWare 3.2 or IntranetWare 4.11 (or if they wait until Q3-Q4 of this year - NetWare 5).

Although this does not sound fair at all for the 4.1 users that just went through a huge upgrade recently, the issue is as follows:

1) These clients with legacy version of NetWare are commited to using NetWare because the NT option of Y2000 does not yet exist either (Microsoft is staying suspiciously quiet regarding stating that NT 4 is Y2000 compliant and if not what are the NT 4 options - my guess is that NT 4 or earlier customers will have to upgrade to NT 5 and
Microsoft doesn't want to admit it).

2) Any customers that have put that much commitment into implementing NDS and NetWare 4.x may be pissed at Novell but most would not do anything as radical as jumping to - ahhhh - what?

3) Y2000 upgrading is a must and cannot be put off. Unlike the fence-sitting old NetWare customers that won't put money into Novell's products because their current NOS is OK enough for their business needs. These customers must finally get off the fence and begin to upgrade to risk having potentially serious network problems.

So, like it or not, Novell will be getting NetWare server sales revenue in a big way beginning this year. AND, my prediction is that the majority of NetWare 4.1 4.02 and 4.01 customers will decide to upgrade to NetWare 5 since they might as well get the biggest bang for their upgrading buck!

With this in mind, I predict a very large boost in the Server sales (in particular NetWare 5) by Q4 of this year. "

Year 2000 Compliancy for Microsoft vs Novell - my thought...
While on the topic of Year 2000, more of my thoughs (reposted from Yahoo):

"... But, with that being said, there is a bigger reason not to touch the NT software.

Microsoft will not officially state that their NT operating systems are Y2K compliant or even what their action plan is regarding Y2K! For organizations of any good size (and I would think most US federal departments would qualify) they need to address actions plans NOW. Microsoft doesnt seem to care about their customers concerns on making sure all their systems with respect to Microsoft are ensured to be Y2K compliant. My thinking is that NT4 is not Y2K compliant, because if it were, why would Microsoft sit there and not admit it. Its not for a lack of the customers asking them, and it only hurts their competitive stance against Novell which does have a clearly tested and announced Y2K action plan for their customers.

Several of our large customers up here in Canada have recently put a statment out that they WILL NOT purchase any software/hardware whereby the mftr has not properly tested and announced their product's Y2K compliance or resolution action plan.

I am very sure that the FAA and other US Gov. departments have a similar policy.

Novell should be using this against Microsoft!!!

By the way, most of you have also heard from Dr. S. keynote that Gartner Group has given a clearly stated message to its customers - do not upgrade to NT5 until after Q1 of 2000. For those of you who don't know who Gartner Group is, they are one of the most highly respected Industry and Technology Directions Analysts in the Computer Industry. When Gartner Group talks, people listen.

The wolves are circling all around Microsoft."

Well thats about it for me. I have to postings left for today so I save them today for all you luvly folks on this board. Till then!

ToySoldier - Signing off!
